Sir Nicolas Dorigny was a French engraver, the youngest son of
Michel Dorigny Michel Dorigny (1616 – 20 February 1665) was a French painter and engraver. Biography Dorigny was born in Saint-Quentin. According to the Netherlands Institute for Art History he was a pupil of Georges Lallemand and Simon Vouet.
, and was born in Paris in 1652 or 1658.Grove His education prepared him for the legal field, and he followed that profession until he was thirty years of age, when, as a result of deafness, he turned to the arts. He died in 1746.
