History
The Neuwerkskirche was first mentioned in a document in 1168. The
Late Romanesque building stood in the new part of the city built in 1166 named ("By the new facility"), from which its name is derived.
The church with the patronage of the Holy Cross ( la, sanctae crucis, hence ''Cruciskirche'') belonged to the convent of the Augustinian nuns, the ''Neuwerkskloster''. From 1285, it was used as a
parish church

Late Gothic forms, which were then
baroque

ised between 1731 and 1735; on 25 September 1735, it was consecrated by Bishop Gudenus. The interior was completed by 1740.
In 1982, the parish was merged with
St Wigbert's parish, which was absorbed into the newly formed "Inner City Parish of St Lawrence" in January 2017.
