History

Nailsworth was the location of the first post office of Prospect from 1861 to about 1872. The post office was located at First avenue (First Street, 1860–1901). Two tall palm trees were planted in front of the post office, so that people could see the location of the office from a distance. A series of transactions in Adelaide's early history led to the establishment of Nailsworth. in 1845, William Williams of Reedbeds acquired 21 acres off the original Section 346 of Adelaide. This land was then sold to William Jenkins who then sold 7 acres to Enoch Fry in 1847. Fry named Nailsworth after his hometown in England.
