Gueye was born in Staten Island, New York, to Senegalese parents who played basketball. His father, Ababacar, moved to Staten Island from

College career

Gueye debuted at Monroe, in the NJCAA, during the 2016–17 season when he averaged 2.1 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. He sat out the 2017–18 season because of academic issues. Gueye's playing ability increased when he returned for his sophomore season in 2018–19 and attracted the interest of several colleges. Gueye made the jump to the
