Name and history

Moorefield Township was organized in 1818. It was named after
Moorefield, West Virginia Moorefield is a town and the county seat of Hardy County, West Virginia, United States. It is located at the confluence of the South Branch Potomac River and the South Fork South Branch Potomac River. Moorefield was originally chartered in 1777; ...
(then a city in Virginia), the former hometown of many of its first settlers. Statewide, the only other Moorefield Township is located in Harrison County.


Government

The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1.
