Montgomery City is in central Montgomery County. Two state highways pass through the city center: Missouri Route 19 follows Sturgeon Street, leading northwest to Wellsville and southeast to New Florence, while Missouri Route 161 follows West 2nd Street and East 3rd Street, leading north-northeast to Middletown and southwest to Danville.
