College career

Price played collegiately for Illinois Fighting Illinois from 1967 to 1970. Playing for coach Harv Schmidt, Price averaged 8.5 points and 5.1 rebounds as a sophomore as Illinois finished 11-13 in 1967-1968. As a junior in 1968-1969, Price averaged 12.4 points and 6.8 rebounds, as Illinois finished 19-5. Illinois finished 15-9 in Price's senior year. He averaged 15.0 points and 9.2 rebounds. Overall, Price averaged 12.0 points and 7.0 rebounds in 70 career games for the Illini.


Professional career

Price was the 17th overall pick by the New York Knicks in the

. Price played for the Knicks from 1970 to 1971. He spent time in the

during the 1971 NBA offseason and returned a month before the season commenced. Price was waived by the Knicks on November 23, 1971. He then played for the Indiana Pacers of the American Basketball Association (ABA) during the 1971–72 season. Price returned to the NBA during the 1972–73 season to play for the Philadelphia 76ers when the team lost an NBA record 73 of 82 games. He averaged 3.2 points and 1.3 rebounds during his career in the NBA and ABA.
