From 1986 until 1992, Adams worked at

(LLNL) as a physicist. From 1992 until 2022, he was a Professor of Nuclear Engineering at the Texas A&M University. He is currently a member of the stockpile assessment team of the Strategic Advisory Group for the U.S. Strategic Command, the National Academies Committee on International Security and Arms Control, and the Predictive Science Panel for LNLL and Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).
