Writing and production

On August 20, 2006, Tao was interviewed by '' Southern Metropolis Daily'', saying, "Actually, the song 'Marry Me Today' was not a duet when I wrote it, I sang it alone, and then when I was writing the lyrics, I already knew that it was about marriage, I thought if we invited a female singer to sing with us, she would sing a verse, I would sing a verse, then we would sing the chorus together, and then the rap part would be like a pastor emcee, then the song would become more three-dimensional and interesting. So I turned the song into a male-female duet. In fact, I didn't start with Jolin Tsai, but I ended up with her, and it wasn't because I wanted to cater to the hype of the record company, which was totally out of the question. If that was the case, I would have rejected it and been disgusted by it. As for why I chose Jolin Tsai, it's because she and I are in two different age groups. She's in her twenties and I'm in my thirties, and these two ages have different views on marriage, so the song that comes out of it will have a special feeling, a special resonance."

Anecdotes

Donald Trump was elected president of the United States in the 2016 presidential election. A netizen quoted the lyrics "DT in the house" from the song "Marry Me Today", in which DT (or David Tao) was thought to be Donald Trump by netizens, and jokingly called Tsai a prophet. The netizens said, "I had guessed that Trump would win the U.S. election, after all, the mysterious power from the East, Tsai had predicted: DT (Donald Trump) in the house (White House)."
