Manning Julian Dauer was an American political scientist.


Early life

Dauer was born in 1909 in North Carolina. He received his bachelor's degree (1930) and master's degree (1931) from the University of Florida and his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois (1933).


Career

During 50 years of teaching political science, Manning Dauer influenced more than 15,000 students, including U.S. Sen.

. Dauer was a student at UF, earning his bachelor's degree in 1930 and his master's degree in 1931. After receiving his doctoral degree from the University of Illinois in 1933, he returned to UF in 1933 as an instructor. He remained at UF until his retirement in 1980 except for a period of service in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. Dauer established UF's political science department in 1950. He was named a distinguished service professor at UF in 1972 and was awarded an honorary doctor of law degree in 1983.
