2,
with the boundary between the ''Reserva Nacional Nalcas'' (to the north) and the ''Reserva Nacional Malalcahuello'' (to the south) crossing the summit of Lonquimay.
Sandy volcanic soil covers much of the area, with large forested areas dominated by
araucaria trees.
