MTV Roadies (season 20)

''MTV Roadies: Karm Ya Kaand'' () is the twentieth season of the Indian reality show MTV Roadies produced by Banijay Asia. Hosted by Sonu Sood for the second time, the season premiered on MTV India on 3 June 2023 and digitally streams on JioCinema. It also marks the return of gang leader Prince Narula along with new gang leaders Gautam Gulati and Rhea Chakraborty. On 15 October 2023, Vashu Jain from Gang Rhea emerged as the winner of the season.

Auditions (Episode 1 to 12)

MTV Roadies Karm Ya Kaand auditions were held at Chandigarh on 13 April 2023, Delhi on 15 April 2023, Indore on 20 April 2023, and Pune on 22 April 2023.

The contestants had to get minimum 2 votes from the gang leaders to put themselves in an auction.
* Sonu Sood had special powers,
**Kaand the contestant gets the choice to choose their Gang Leader as soon as the bid reaches 2000 Roadiums.
**Sonu Astra the gang leaders have to reverse bid to not have the contestant in their gang, the gang leader who has bid the highest will choose which gang the contestant goes to.
**Reverse the chance for any gang leader to bid even if they gave red buzzer.

Battleground

MTV Roadies Battleground, Top 5 Finalists were chosen by public vote on JioCinema. They competed in two rounds to join the Roadies journey as Wild-cards.

# Akriti Negi returned during the journey as a wildcard and joined Gang Rhea by surviving a vote-out.

Gangs after dissolve

# The favorites had power to choose ''Kaand'' and receive immunity for next two vote-outs. Prakram from Gang Gautam picked the ''Kaand Card'' and as consequences, gang leader with most amount of Roadiums can swap one Roadie from Gang Gautam. Gang Leader Prince had highest Roadiums and he swapped Piyu with Akriti for his gang.

Roadium Count

This season, the Gang Leaders had to bid in Auction to buy the contestants for their gangs in the PI Round.

During journey, Gangs can win Roadiums in tasks and could use it for special powers.

Journey - Kurukshetra (Episode 13)

First task: Bhai Bhai ki Pisai

The task was based on a war based theme where each gang has to compete within themselves with team of five-five. Gang leaders has to choose two captains who will lead the line on a chariot and two other will be the sarathi of the chariot, while rest two member will be the attackers. The chariots will have five masks and during the task attackers will try to destroy opponent chariot masks using bow and arrow. The captain will have to cover a distance on chariot with sarathi pulling it and in between he has to collect arrows and give it to attackers waiting in other end. while reaching other end he has to cut a rope again go back and do the same. After cutting three ropes one door will open by using which he can go to other side and destroy the masks of opponent's chariot. The team destroying first all the mask of opponents will win.

All the captains and members of winning team were safe from vote out. Each gang had to vote out two members. One from the losing team which will be decided by winning team of same gang and one by gang leader. Mallika, Hassan, Manpreet, Shubham, Pery, Lekha were voted out and eliminated by the gangs members and their leaders respectively.

Journey - Patiala (Episode 14 to 19)

Second task: Goodluck Gullak

Before this task a surprise vote-out was announced. The gang leaders had to target one team and they had the power to put one roadie again in danger zone of vote out who was saved in first task by winning it. The captains of last task were already immune. So Gautam, Prince and Rhea took immunity of Shayan, Himanshu and Pallavi respectively.

In the vote out Pallavi was voted out by roadies. but she was given a chance to perform a task and if she wins she will be safe.

Pallavi had the option to choose one gang and she choose gang Rhea to perform against. One roadie from her own gang will help her in the task. She choose Prakram to help her while Rhea selected Rishabh and Nayera to challenge them.

In the task gang leaders will throw coins to one roadie which she will pass to second roadie. Then he has to go and fill the coins in a big gullak. After one minute both the teams will tussle to roll the gullak and take it to their side. Whichever team takes the gullak to their side only their coins will be counted.

Pallavi and Prakram from gang Gautam won the task and Pallavi was safe from being eliminated.

Third task: Haar ka Waar

Each gang has to find out four missing pieces of a necklace from a palace. Each gang will send two roadies as attackers and medic respectively while four other roadies called defenders from rest two gang will try to oppose them while searching for pieces.
Each attacker will have three lifelines and each defender will have one. While collecting/defending the pieces of necklace each of them will engage with gun like weapon and whoever destroys their lifeline during the task will end his part in task. If attacker loses his 3 lifeline then medic can assist him with maximum of 3 more lifeline. Whoever collects all pieces first and arranges will win the task.

Gang Gautam won the task and received 5 immunities & 2000 Roadiums for completing the task in minimum time. Gang Prince won 2000 Roadiums for completing the task second.

In the following vote-out, Nejm and Rupa were voted out by the Roadies.

Fourth task: Wakhra Swag

In this task each gang had to prepare one skit and dance performance in front of audience. Results were decided based on audience and Sonu Sood's vote.

Gang Prince won the task and won 3000 Roadiums while Rhea and Gautam received 2000 and 1000 Roadiums respectively.

Fifth task: Chaat yaa Chaata

In this task each gang leader had to select two roadies, one of them will be their weak link in the gang. One roadie from each gang will eat chaat and whoever eats first and hit the bell first will get an opportunity to select the gang they wanted to ask general knowledge question. If the gang says correct answer they will get +1 and if not then -1 point and also their weak link roadie will get a slap from a slap machine.

Gang Rhea won the task and won 5 immunities.

In the following vote out,
Sonu reveals that the weak links had an opportunity to do ''Kaand'' by immuning themselves but they have to face the consequences if their gang won. Priyanka C from Prince gang and Shayan from Rhea Gang choose to did ''Kaand'' and as consequences Gang Rhea lost all their immunities.
Gary was voted out by the Roadies.

Journey - Chail (Episode 20 to 25)

The four battleground winners Akriti, Naveen, Leeza and Anmol joined roadies in camp side where three of them got into gangs while Anmol got voted out. Prince spent 1000 Roadiums, so Naveen joined Gang Prince while he sent Leeza to Gang Gautam and by voting Akriti joined Gang Rhea as wildcard entries.

Sixth task: Todd Faad Entry

In this task each gang had to chose five Roadies to participate. In the first level all Roadies had to climb a 15 feet wall with help of each other and then one Roadie will climb a ladder and collect numbers. After collecting three numbers they had to put a combination of those numbers and open a box, in which there will be weighted balls. Two Roadies will climb a tower and by using a catapult they had to aim for a grid of tiles using those balls. Who ever hits five tiles first will win.

By coming first and second respectively Gang Rhea won 3000 Roadiums and Gang Gautam won 1500 Roadiums.

Seventh task: Go Gobar Gone

In this task, Roadies go against each other standing on a bridge above a pit of dung. After the whistle During the whistle they have to aim and get the ball hanging in middle.
Having the most amount of roadiums, gang leader Rhea had an opportunity to either participate in the task or don't perform and bid in each round who she thinks will win the round, if she bet on the correct Roadie, she wins 1 Immunity for the Gang, but if she bets on the wrong Roadie, she loses 500 Roadiums.

After the task, Gang Rhea won 6, Gang Gautam won 5 and Gang Prince won 2 immunities each.

In the following vote out Naveen, Priyanka C, Nayera, Leeza were voted out.

Eighth task: Teen Patti Gul Batti

The task will be performed in two stages, During the first stage, Roadies will collect cards with contestants faces and set them on a series of card number. In stage two, gang leaders will play ''teen patti'', where the highest card they put forward will win that round.

At the end of the task Tanu, Rishabh and Bhoomika from Gang Rhea; Digvijay and Rajveer from Gang Gautam and Priyanka G from Gang Prince were immune.

Ninth task: Naach Jamura Naach

Before the task, Gang Leaders had to choose two Roadies, one as mastermind and one roadie as entertainer. In a fair, gangs will sell Himachal's special food item Siddu to local public and collect money.

By coming first and second respectively Gang Prince won 3000 Roadiums, Gang Rhea won 2000 Roadiums.

Later in the vote out, Vashu was voted out by Roadies but as part of a twist, if the ''Kaandi Joker'' Priyanka G choose ''Karm'' and sacrifice her immunity for next 2 vote-outs she can save voted-out Roadie. Priyanka G chose to sacrifice and saved Vashu.

Journey - Solang Valley (Episode 26 to 32)

Tenth task: Ande Ka Funda

In this task, Roadies will collect eggs from the ground, while doing so if the gang leader who is their against capture them then they will lose their 1 golden egg (+5 points) and 1 normal egg (+1 points).

By coming first and second respectively Gang Prince won 3000 Roadiums and Gang Gautam won 2000 Roadiums.

Eleventh task: Bomb Diggy Diggy Bomb

In each round, one Roadie from each gang will climb a ladder with a bomb ''(matka)'' in his/her hand. In the next stage, the Roadie who climbs last will be eliminated and other two Roadies will travel through a zip line and try to throw the bomb on the target.

Gang Prince won three rounds first and won immunity for entire Gang.

In the following vote-out, Digvijay and Neerja were voted out.

Twelfth task: Dhoond Barabar Dhoond

After the gang dissolve, the favorite Roadies will compete against each other in a jungle. They will find the other Roadies using the clues written by gang leaders and paint their mask with their gang colour.

Prakram from Gang Gautam, Rishabh from Gang Rhea and Ashika from Gang Prince competed in the task.

Prakram picked the ''Kaand'' card and as consequences, gang leader with most amount of Roadiums can swap one Roadie from Gang Gautam. Gang Leader Prince had highest Roadiums and he swapped Piyu with Akriti for his gang.

Thirteenth task: Khoon Bhari Gang

Roadies from each gang will go against each other in a stick fight. They will attack their opponents water pouches and defend themselves in the process, for hitting a pouch roadie will earn 500 roadiums.

Gang Rhea won the task and got 3 immunities.
Based on the number of hits, Gang Prince won 5000 Roadiums, Gang Gautam won 5500 Roadiums and Gang Rhea won 8000 Roadiums.

In the following vote-out, Rajveer, Siwet, Sachin, Akriti, Bhoomika and Himanshu were voted-out.
Gang Leader Gautam and Prince saved Sachin and Himanshu respectively by sacrificing their 2000 Roadiums each.
Siwet, Akriti and Bhoomika got opportunity to save themselves by surviving a task.

Fourteenth task: Paani Full Dabba Gul

The voted-out Roadies, Siwet, Akriti and Bhoomika would perform the task. They will choose their one friend who will be blindfolded, guided by their respective gang leader and would stop the enemies from bringing the bucket of water to spill on voted-out roadie laying in casket. The two enemy roadies would collect water and hop to the Roadies in the casket and spill water on them, making them quit the task as the glacier water would be extremely cold.

The task was cancelled as none of the Roadies gave up, hence no further elimination took place.

Journey - Sissu (Episode 33 to 36)

Fifteenth task: Patthar Daal Roadies Behaal

In this task, each gang will target any other gang. The soldier Roadie will collect the golden stones across the river and will give it to mind Roadie who will write the name of Roadie they want to vote-out. Then the mind Roadie will give the stones to thrower Roadie who will throw it in their target gang's basket. The strength Roadie will be holding their gang basket. If they manage to hold it for 7 minutes then they will earn an immunity for themselves. The task will end for the gang when their strength Roadie gives up on holding of their weighted basket filled with stones.We saw cry baby Rishab Jaiswal make a selfish decision and Mr Lappu Sachin faint after which Siwet Tomar carried him to the camp forgetting all the rivalry.

Gang Prince won the task and earned partial immunity.

In the following elimination, Joginder and Abhirup were voted out by their gang leader.

In the following vote-out, Prem & Shayan were voted out by the Roadies.

Sixteenth task: Aaja Meri Bike Pe Baith Jaa

In this task, Roadies had to collect pouches containing alphabets. First they will ride a bike on a bridge and collect the hanging pouches, then on a tyre wall hanging above the river by bridge. Lastly they will unlock their third roadie and have to make ten words using those alphabets. If they make the word ''RIDEFREE'' then 1 min. from their total timing will be reduced.

Gang Prince won the task and received immunity for whole gang.

Seventeenth task: Ball Le Ball Le

In this head on task, each Roadie had to collect 8 balls of their gang by running through six lanes and place it in to their gang's pole.

Gang Prince and Gang Rhea won the task and received 4000 Roadiums each.

In the following vote-out, Akriti was voted out by the Roadies. In a twist, whom she chooses to vote-out would also get voted-out. Akriti chose Bhoomika to be voted-out with her.

Journey - Kaza (Episode 36 to 40)

Eighteenth task: Mummy Bula Rahi Hai

In this task, Roadies had to find three set of bandages from an ancient ruins to cover their mummy. Later, they have to fight against their mummy to take two ribbons from him/her and then begin wrapping him/her. Roadies will face obstacles and must use their mummy to find a key of the casket. Lastly they have to lock their mummy in it. The performing Roadies from winning gang will earn an immunity.

Gang Rhea won the task and received immunity for Rishabh and Vashu.

Nineteenth task: Ticket to Finale - Karm Ya Kaand

In this task, gang leaders have to choose two Roadies from their gang for ''Ticket to Finale''. Roadies travelled through a monastery carrying weight of their ''Kaand''. There they have to do three ''Karm'' by helping the locals and earn clues; with the clue they have to make a tile that will show the number to unlock a chest containing ''Ticket to Finale.''

Gang Gautam won the task, Prakram received ''Ticket to Finale''.

In the following elimination, Pallavi and Piyu were voted-out by their gang leader.

In the following vote-out, Priyanka G was voted-out by the roadies.
In a twist, the voted-out roadie will write a name of a roadie in a ''elimination card'' who they want to vote-out. Priyanka G voted-out Sachin, Sachin voted-out Ashika, Ashika voted-out Tanu.

Notes

Production

Casting

In March 2023, Shiv Thakare, MC Stan and Pratik Sehajpal were approached to be a part of the series as gang leader. In the following month, Sonu Sood returned as host.

In April 2023, Prince Narula was cast as the gang leader and was joined by Gautam Gulati and Rhea Chakraborty.

Ex-Roadie Shiv Thakare came as a guest for an episode during the Auditions. Ashneer Grover came as a guest during the Auditions to help a gang leader with 2000 Roadiums. He teamed up with Prince Narula.

Development

In March 2023, MTV India announced the series with the tagline 'Karm Ya Kaand'. The journey will begin from Kurukshetra to Kaza.

Filming

The principal photography of the series commenced in April 2023. The auditions were held in Chandigarh, Delhi, Indore and Pune.

Release

On 19 March 2023, a promo revealing the season's theme was released on MTV India.
