History

The village was first mentioned in 1335 as "in Loinghum", and means "settlement of the people of Lode". Loënga was a ''

'' (artificial living hill) village. The Dutch Reformed church dated from the 14th century, but was torn down in the middle of the 17th century. In 1620, a little belfry was placed in the cemetery. Loënga was home to 70 people in 1840. In 1984, it was annexed by the city of
