History

Lorane was originally called Exeter Station, until the great Exeter train wreck of 1899 prompted a name change. The present name most likely was derived from

, in France. A post office was established at Exeter Station in 1861, the post office was renamed Lorane in 1900, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1955.
