Jim Clark OBE was a British racing driver who won two Formula One world championships. He entered Formula One in 1960 with Team Lotus and raced with the British team for the entirety of his Formula One career. Clark won both of his two world championships during his eight seasons with Lotus, in 1963 and 1965. He won his final race in what would of been his ninth season with Lotus, at the 1968 South African Grand Prix. Clark was killed three months later in a Formula Two race in Hockenheim, West Germany. At the time of his death, aged 32, he had won more Grand Prix races (25) and achieved more Grand Prix pole positions (33) than any other driver. Clark achieved his first victory in Formula One at the 1962 Belgian Grand Prix on 17 June. He won three Grands Prix in his first three seasons with Lotus, and in 1963, he won seven out of the ten races to win his first Formula One world championship. Clark's record of seven wins in a season was not equalled until 1984 when Frenchman Alain Prost won seven races for McLaren, and was not broken until Brazilian Ayrton Senna won eight races in the 1988 season, also for McLaren (Senna's teammate that year was Prost who again equalled the old record by winning seven races). However, Clark's record is favourable compared to Prost and Senna's as the 1963 championship only consisted of 10 rounds (giving Clark a 70% success rate), while 1984 and 1988 were run over 16 rounds giving Prost a success rate of 43.75% and Senna a 50% winning ratio. In the subsequent four seasons with Lotus, he secured his second and final Formula One world championship title. His final win in Formula One came at the first race of the 1968 season at the 1968 South African Grand Prix.

In all, Clark won 25 Grands Prix at thirteen different circuits, currently ranking him joint-tenth overall in the all-time Formula One Grand Prix winners' list. All 25 of Clark's victories were for Lotus, and 19 of his wins were in cars with a Climax FWMV engine. Of his remaining six victories, five were achieved with a Ford Cosworth DFV, and one with a BRM H16. He was most successful at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps and Circuit Zandvoort, where he won at both circuits on four occasions. His largest margin of victory was 4:54.000 at the 1963 Belgian Grand Prix, where he had lapped the entire field except for Bruce McLaren, and was almost five minutes ahead of McLaren and his Cooper. His narrowest margin of victory was 0:02.800 at the 1964 British Grand Prix.
