The arena was built in 1986. Its current state dates back to 1995, when the arena was partially renovated (e.g. more tiers were added) to be the home of
Irakleio B.C. Iraklio OAA B.C. (Greek: Ηράκλειο OAA KAE), also known simply as Iraklio, or Heraklion, is a Greek professional basketball club that is based in the city of Heraklion, on the island of Crete, in Greece. It is a department of the ''Heraklio ...
, when the team was promoted to the Greek A1 Basketball League, the top tier of the Greek basketball league system. For many years it was the only
