apparently was inspired to write the song while sitting in a pub, noting the customers "clinging on to bottles" and sensing in them the "emptiest of feelings," a sense of disappointment. The main guitar riff of the song is in the time signature of 5/4 where as the rest of the band are playing in 4/4, meaning that they repeat in different places and feel separate although the work together. This represents the metaphor Thome Yorke uses of of moving through a city in a vehicle, seeing everything but not really being part of it.


Live performances

The band has rarely performed "Let Down" live. After a 2006 performance, the song was not featured on any of the band's concert setlists for ten years until it was revived on the tour supporting ''
