History

The dam and lake was named after the pioneering family in the district. The dam was constructed in 1984 on the head waters of the Burrum River and raised by in 2007. In January 2013 as a result of heavy rain from ex Tropical Cyclone Oswald, the lake reached its highest recorded level of which was over the spillway. The lake has a relatively small surface area of , an average depth of . Its main purpose is for town water supply for Hervey Bay and surrounding townships within the Fraser Coast Region.
