History
The one-room cabin was built in 1925 by
George Owen Knapp George Owen Knapp (January 21, 1855 – July 21, 1945) was a wealthy industrialist and philanthropist. He was the President of Peoples Gas Light and Coke Company in Chicago, by 1893. In 1894 he was a founder of the Union Calcium Carbide Company whic ...
, founder of
Union Carbide

. Knapp used the cabin for storage while camping in the area. After Knapp stopped camping in 1928, he no longer used the cabin.
The cabin saw occasional use until the creation of Kings Canyon National Park in 1940. In the 1950s, the

assumed maintenance of the cabin.
