since 1957. In January 1989 the population was 7151 people. In January 2013 the population was 6246 people. Until 18 July 2020, Kehychivka was the administrative center of Kehychivka Raion. The raion was abolished in July 2020 as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, which reduced the number of raions of Kharkiv Oblast to seven. The area of Kechyhivka Raion was merged into Krasnohrad Raion.
