Dorgu was born in June 1958 in Burutu, Nigeria. From 1979 to 1985, he studied at the College of Medicine,

Dorgu is married to Mosun; she also trained as a medical doctor in Nigeria and now works as a

child psychiatrist. Together they have two sons: Timi and Josh (died 2015).
