Background
''Junkyard'' was inspired by American
Southern Gothic

imagery, dealing with extreme subjects like an evangelist's murdered daughter. Anita Lane, then girlfriend of lead singer Nick Cave, co-wrote two songs for the album: "Dead Joe" and "Kiss Me Black".
