, a position he held until he resigned in 1960. In 1960 he became the first Chancellor of the Municipal College System of the City of New York, for a salary of $25,000 ($ in current dollar terms). In 1964 he became the President of the New School for Social Research. He retired in 1982. He died of pancreatic cancer in 1992 at 73 years of age.
