Political career

Taliaferro was elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy in the term beginning March 4, 1899. He was appointed and subsequently reelected in 1905 and served from April 20, 1899, to March 3, 1911; but was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1910. Taliaferro was chairman of the Committee on Revolutionary Claims (

Taliferro died in Jacksonville; he is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
