In 2010 he won the ARD International Music Competition. In 2012, Steckel received the Echo Klassik in the category ''Nachwuchskünstler (Cello)'' with his album ''Korngold, Bloch, Goldschmidt: Cello Concertos'', published by Cavi-Music.
