Siliceo successfully fought to impose the '' limpieza de sangre'' ("purity of blood") statutes on the Archdiocese of Toledo in order to exclude the Conversos, those Spaniards descended from Jews who had converted to Catholicism, from holding official positions within the Church hierarchy.
