History

The journal was established in 1955 as the ''Journal of the Reticuloendothelial Society''. It was originally published by
Academic Press Academic Press (AP) is an academic book publisher founded in 1941. It was acquired by Harcourt, Brace & World in 1969. Reed Elsevier bought Harcourt in 2000, and Academic Press is now an imprint of Elsevier. Academic Press publishes reference ...
. In 1984 the Reticuloendothelial Society changed its name to the Society for Leukocyte Biology and the journal obtained its current name. The original editors-in-chief were A.S. Gordon and B.N. Halpern. Other editors have included J.W. Rebuck, Quenten Myrvik (1974–1980), and Carleton Stewart (1981–1994).
