Biography

Joseph Atkins Baker was born on November 7, 1883, in Sharon, Madison County, Mississippi. He was the son of William Jackson Baker and Almyra Atkins. Baker attended the public schools of Madison County, Mississippi, and Shreveport High School. He graduated from Millsaps College with B. S. and Ph. B. degrees in 1906. He took a law course in Millsaps from 1908 to 1909 and received a Bachelor of Laws degree. He moved to Jackson, Mississippi, in 1910 and began practicing law there.
