2022 season

Martínez scored his first goal of the 2022 season on 13 March 2022. After a second successful knee surgery, he started his first game since April, where he went on to score a goal and assisted another. At the end of the season, he completed a stunning scissor kick goal which won the award for the MLS Goal of the Year, 2022. Atlanta United front office has said that despite the remaining year in his contract, his continued goal-scoring with minimal play time in 2022 and antagonizing his massive fan base, that he will not return to play for this club in 2023.
