Burton published the ''Star and Conception Bay Journal'', ''Comet'', ''Telegraph'', ''Star and Newfoundland Advocate'', ''Newfoundland Express'' and ''Telegraph and Political Review''. He was defeated in 1869 when he ran as a supporter of union with Canada. Burton moved to
