At the most recent census of 2016, the population of the rural district was 2,032 in 484 households, by which time it had been transferred to the Central District of Sarpol-e Zahab County. The largest of its 28 villages was Tappeh Kabud, with 146 people. After the census, Dasht-e Zahab, Jeygaran, Posht Tang, and Sarqaleh Rural Districts were separated from the Central District in the establishment of Dasht-e Zahab District.
