On 17 September 2018, after attending the Maple Leafs training camp, Lindgren was returned on loan to HPK for the
2018–19 season.
On 9 August 2020, Lindgren returned to Modo Hockey of the Allsvenskan on loan from the Maple Leafs to begin the 2020–21 season. On 25 August 2020, Lindgren was involved in a six player deal that saw him traded by the Maple Leafs to the Pittsburgh Penguins along with
