Jagot was born in England, and migrated to Australia with her family in 1968. Jagot studied at

in 1991. Jagot worked as a solicitor with Mallesons Stephen Jaques (now

) from 1992 to 2002, specialising in planning and environmental law. She was promoted to partner in 1997. She was admitted to the bar in 2002, after which she developed a successful practice as a barrister.
