Rowe is the son of former Adelaide, Norwood and South Fremantle player, Stephen Rowe, who played for the Crows between 1991 and 1995. He is currently a radio host and football commentator with
FIVEaa FIVEaa (pronounced ''Five Double A'') is Adelaide's only commercial talkback radio station. The station has a range of programs including news, sports, current affairs, social issues, football calls, gardening, lifestyle, cars, travel and healt ...
radio, and was commentating when James kicked his first goal in his first game.
