Dalton played for the Schools team in 1990 and was also selected for the South African Schools team in 1990. He made his debut for the Transvaal senior side in 1992 and in 2001 went to play for the . In Super Rugby, Dalton played for the during 1998 and 1999 and for the in 2001 and 2002.
