Eng became involved in local politics, and was a deputy member of Karmøy

from 1967 to 1971. He was elected in 1971, and even became mayor. He served until 1973, then from 1975 to 1981. He was deputy mayor from 1981 to 1982, then mayor again from 1982 to 1984. He was then a regular council member from 1984 to 2003. He was a member of
