On one side of the memorial is written "AN GORTA MÓR - THE GREAT HUNGER", "IRELAND 1845-1850" along with the dedication and on the other: "NEVER AGAIN SHOULD A PEOPLE STARVE IN A WORLD OF PLENTY".
