Background and recording

On March 17, 2022, Quadeca announced that he was "sitting on the greatest ever posthumous album". Some considered this to be referring to an album by frequent collaborator Sad Frosty, who had passed away earlier that year. Instead, this was a reference to Quadeca's intention to release the album after his own death. Quadeca stated that he had undergone an "evolution" as an artist.
