Establishment of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University was an upgrade of the Institute of Postgraduate Medicine and Research (IPGMR). Organization

The university is an autonomous body governed by a 24-member syndicate. BSMMU comprises 42 departments under 6 faculties. The university campus is located at Shahbag and has a 1900-bed hospital.


Library and publications

BSMMU has an academic library known as BSMMU Central Library, and a digital library. The university publishes a peer-reviewed medical journal, ''Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Journal''. (print). It publishes 4 issue per year.
