At the most recent census of 2016, the population of the rural district was 11,156 in 3,297 households. The most populous of its 53 villages was Chah-e Savar Agha (now in Chah Gaz Rural District), with 1,758 people. In July 2018, the district was separated from the county in the establishment of Bakhtegan County, which was divided into two districts of two rural districts each, with Abadeh Tashk as its capital and only city at that time.
