Plot
Public defender Paul Bennett dedicates himself to defending a destitute man accused of murder. Piano player Richard Kincaid was brought to trial for the crime 12 years earlier for a crime he steadfastly claims he did not commit, but he was sure that he would be found guilty and escaped before the jury reached a verdict. Now recaptured, he is to be tried again. Bennett must track down the seven people who witnessed a fight between Kincaid and the murder victim before the crime occurred. In the years since the first trial, World War II has come and gone and the lives of the witnesses have undergone major changes, most of them for the worse.
