. The island is dominated by a mountain, but the southeastern third of the island is relatively flat and that is where the residents of the island live. In 2018, there were 25 inhabitants on the island. The island lies just north of the island of Store Sommarøya and it is connected by the Hillesøy Bridge to Sommerøy which in turn is connected to the large island of Kvaløya and the rest of Norway by another bridge.
