Following tutelage under his uncle, he painted ''St Francis Receiving the Stigmata'' for the church of Santi Sebastiano e Rocco in Bologna, and a ''Dead Christ with Virgin Mary and Mary Magdalen'' now housed in the National Museum of Bologna.
