. In 1979, Cook enjoyed a breakout season playing 16 games and being selected to represent New South Wales. Cook played at lock in Canterbury's 17–13 loss in the 1979 NSWRL grand final against St George. In 1980, Cook was limited to only 5 games due to injury and missed out on playing in the 1980 NSWRL grand final victory over
