History

Grainfield had its start in the year 1879 by the building of the railroad through that territory. It was named for the wheat fields in the vicinity. The first post office in Grainfield was established in May, 1879. The

Grainfield is served by Wheatland USD 292 public school district. The Wheatland High School mascot is Thunderhawks. The Wheatland Shockers and Grinnell Warriors last sports season was in 2005-2006.
