The Government Major Projects Portfolio is a collection of large-scale developments under the control of the Government of the United Kingdom.


History

The portfolio was established in 2013. Originally, the portfolio was managed by the Major Projects Austhority, until it was merged with the
Infrastructure and Projects Authority The Infrastructure and Projects Authority (IPA) was, between 2016 and April 2025, the United Kingdom government's centre of expertise for infrastructure and major projects. The IPA reported to the Cabinet Office and HM Treasury. The core teams in ...
in 2016. The functions of the Infrastructure and Projects Authority were transferred to the National Infrastructure and Service Transformation Authority in April 2025.


Projects

The portfolio contains four categories of project: * government transformation and service delivery * military capability * infrastructure and construction * information and communication technology As of 2025, 68 of the 227 schemes in the portfolio are infrastructure and construction schemes. Projects are rated according to a "Red, Amber and Green" traffic light-style scheme to indicate how likely they are to succeed.
