Early life

Chai Ng Mei was born on 22 February 1953 to Chinese parents.


Career

When she was 14 years old, Chai won a silver in the high jump event of the 1967 Southeast Asian Games. She trained in West Germany in 1971. The following year, she represented Malaysia in the women's pentathlon event of

but was forced to retire because of an injury. Chai won four golds at the
