Gertrud Bäumer studied in Berlin and received her Ph.D. in 1905. Her dissertation was on Goethe's ''Satyron''. Bäumer edited the ''Handbuch der Frauenbewegung'' andbook of the Women's Movementfrom 1901–1906. From 1916–1920 she was in charge of the Social Pedagogical Institute with
