He died on August 3, 1982 at the age of 73 after suffering a heart attack. In 1936, Van Bibber coached the first full season of wrestling at the University at Buffalo, finishing with a 0 win, 6 loss record. Van Bibber was an alumnus of Purdue University, lettering in baseball and football.
