Etymology

The name Gachancipá comes from Chibcha and means "Pottery of the ''zipa''".


History

The area of Gachancipá before the Spanish conquest was inhabited by the Muisca, organised in their loose

. Gachancipá, as the name suggests, was ruled by the '' zipa'' based in
